ENVELOPE brings AI-driven safety and 6G-ready mobility to the ITS European Congress 2026

ENVELOPE participated in the 17th ITS European Congress, held in Istanbul from 27 to 29 April 2026, joining one of Europe’s key events for intelligent transport systems and connected, cooperative and automated mobility.

The project’s presence in Istanbul was part of its wider impact creation and dissemination activities, led by ERTICO ITS EUROPE, with a clear focus on presenting how ENVELOPE supports safer, smarter, and more reliable mobility through Beyond 5G and 6G-ready technologies.

During Special Interest Session IS56, “AI-based tools for situational awareness and traffic safety in Europe”, Nikos Tsampieris presented how ENVELOPE uses AI, multi-source data integration and digital twin technologies to improve situational awareness and road safety in complex traffic environments. His presentation focused on how the project brings together edge capabilities, predictive Quality of Service and data fusion to better understand what is happening around vehicles, infrastructure and road users. This is especially important in mixed-traffic environments, where automated, connected and conventional vehicles need to operate safely alongside vulnerable road users and other transport modes.

In the same session, George Christou presented ENVELOPE’s work on cybersecurity and privacy in Beyond 5G and 6G networks. His contribution highlighted how the project’s experimentation platform, zero-touch management and closed-loop decision engine help reinforce trust, resilience and security when advanced CAM services are tested at scale.

ENVELOPE was also represented in the session “The path to 6G: Bridging Next-Generation Connectivity for Safe and Seamless Mobility”. Deputy Project Coordinator Konstantinos Katsaros presented the role of network exposure and programmability as key enablers for future CCAM services.His presentation highlighted ENVELOPE’s work on LF CAMARA-aligned and ETSI MEC-based APIs, as well as the project’s three Beyond 5G trial sites in Italy, the Netherlands and Greece. These trial sites provide real environments where advanced connectivity, network programmability and CAM services can be tested, validated and improved.

Across the sessions, ENVELOPE showed how AI-based situational awareness, cybersecurity and programmable network capabilities can support the next generation of intelligent transport systems. The discussions in Istanbul also underlined the importance of testing these technologies in real Beyond 5G environments, where technical performance, trust, safety, and service reliability can be assessed together.

Through its participation in the ITS European Congress 2026, ENVELOPE strengthened its visibility within the European ITS and CCAM community and shared concrete insights from its work towards safer, more seamless and future-ready mobility.
