ENVELOPE at the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026 in Málaga
ENVELOPE took part in the 2026 EuCNC & 6G Summit, held at FYCMA in Málaga, Spain, from 2 to 5 June 2026 under the theme “6G — Connecting Intelligence.” One of Europe’s flagship telecommunications events, the Summit brings together close to a thousand delegates from more than forty countries. Researchers, industry, operators, SMEs, standards experts and EU-funded projects, alongside a large exhibition of European research and innovation. ENVELOPE was present across the full span of the programme, with a live exhibition demonstration, a special session, several workshop contributions, and technical papers.

A live demonstration of network programmability in action
At the heart of ENVELOPE’s presence was the exhibition demonstration “Network Programmability in Action: AI-Driven 5G/6G Adaptation for CAM Services,” led by ICCS and Nextworks (NXW), with additional support at the booth from the wider consortium.
The demo made a complex idea tangible for a general audience. Using a “See-What-I-See” cooperative perception scenario, two miniature vehicles acting as 5G user equipment, each fitted with a camera, a Raspberry Pi and a 5G modem, illustrated how connected vehicles share what they see. The Front Vehicle streamed live video over the 5G uplink to the Back Vehicle over the downlink, while additional smartphones generated background traffic to deliberately congest the network.
Behind the scenes, a full 5G network was deployed at the booth (Amarisoft 5G RAN and Open5GS core), with two edge laptops hosting the CCAM Application Function and an OpenCAPIF-based API exposure gateway. As congestion built, the 5G core’s ML-enabled analytics predicted an imminent throughput degradation and issued a proactive notification to the application through the LF CAMARA Connectivity Insights (Predictive QoS) API. The application then responded automatically: it invoked the LF CAMARA Quality-on-Demand (QoD) API to secure a guaranteed uplink for the Front Vehicle, and activated ATSSS multi-connectivity (ETSI MEC-015) to steer the Back Vehicle’s traffic across 5G and Wi-Fi. A live “glass-to-glass” dashboard let visitors watch the video quality drop under congestion and then recover — all without any manual operator or end-user intervention.
The demonstration captured ENVELOPE’s core message: how Beyond-5G and future 6G infrastructures can evolve from static, operator-driven provisioning into truly vertical-oriented, exposure-native architectures, giving CCAM applications the means to detect, request and use network resources in real time.
ENVELOPE in Special Session 7: Cascaded Funding in the SNS Programme
ENVELOPE was featured in Special Session 7, “Cascaded Funding in the SNS Programme: Accomplishments, Challenges and Future Potential.” Konstantinos V. Katsaros, Deputy Project Coordinator and Division Leader of the INS Team at I-SENSE/ICCS, presented the project’s work in Connected and Automated Mobility, highlighting how ENVELOPE contributes to the development and validation of innovative B5G/6G solutions within the wider SNS JU ecosystem.

The talk gave an overview of the ENVELOPE approach transforming the reference 5G-Advanced architecture into a vertical-oriented one with open, CAMARA/ETSI-MEC-compliant APIs and its three Living Labs in the Netherlands, Italy and Greece. It also shared experiences from the project’s Open Calls, through which ENVELOPE channels €2.7M in cascade funding to third-party experimenters. Example projects such as 6G-NOW (resilient V2X/V2V delivery extending ENVELOPE’s ATSSS with D2D sidelink) and 5GBusNET (safer school-bus transport using QoD and Device Location) illustrated how highly diverse vertical services are validating ENVELOPE technologies, along with lessons learned from working with third parties.
Workshop and technical contributions
ENVELOPE partners contributed across several workshops and sessions:
- Pavlos Basaras (ICCS) presented “Advancing Automotive Vertical Innovation in ENVELOPE through API-Driven Network and Edge Programmability in B5G Systems” in the workshop on open APIs, programmability and experimentation in B5G/6G networks.
- Ramon de Souza Schwartz (TNO) contributed to the cross-project workshop “Advancing Network Digital Twins (NDTs) for AI-driven 6G systems: Insights, applications, and cross-project synergies,” bringing together a large group of SNS JU projects including ENVELOPE.
- Dimitris Tsolkas (FOGUS) supported the SNWG workshop “Bridging Research, Software and Standards towards AI-Native Networks.”
- Harilaos Koumaras (NCSRD) took part in the Architecture and Security Working Group workshops and served on the Best PhD Thesis Award committee.
On the publications side, ENVELOPE was represented by a paper on the ENVELOPE Dutch Trial Site: Advanced Testbed for Network API Experimentation (CMS, TNO), together with a further contribution from NCSRD. TNO and CMS also showcased a video of the partners’ demonstration at the Dutch trial site.

The project further contributed to the running of the conference itself, with Fofy Setaki (OTE) chairing the Applications, Use Cases & IoT (AIU-1) session and serving on the best-poster selection committee, and Geerd Kakes (KPN) participating in the sessions.
Looking ahead
ENVELOPE’s participation in Málaga underlined the project’s momentum as it moves from concepts and architecture towards trials, live demonstrations and standardisation input, exactly the shift towards experimentation and real-world validation that defined this year’s Summit. The project extends its thanks to all partners who represented ENVELOPE in Málaga.
